Being Successful – Realizing Your Dream

Chasing a dream is tough. Typically it involves taking a chance. It involves the opportunity to fail. And nobody likes to fail. But the opportunity to succeed is often extremely motivating, and, believe it or not, I believe you can do anything you put your mind to.

I don’t know about you, but I often find myself wasting a lot of time reading about what other people are doing and reading about how to do what I want to do just right. It’s empowering in some ways to see that other people are doing it, and it’s comforting to know that you know what you are doing, but it’s also a safety blanket that you need to discard.

I know about this first hand. About two years ago I decided to quit my cushy law firm job and open my own law firm. I moved to another city and set out to be the best Tacoma DUI attorney there is. I didn’t know anybody in town. I hadn’t even practiced in that state before. But I knew that I could do it, so I just went out there and did it.

But even today I find myself occasionally getting caught up reading articles about marketing or even other DUI attorneys out there that are crushing it. It’s nice to see that it can be done, and in some ways daydreaming about success is easier than actually going out there and earning it.

When I make my most significant leaps though, as a business owner and as a Seattle DUI lawyer, are when I put my head down and get to work. Whether it’s investigating a case, getting on the phone and talking to people, or taking that much needed next step on a marketing plan, doing always gets me farther than reading.

So, the next time you find yourself lost in some blog post or some article, make yourself close the browser or book, and think about what you can be doing right now to promote your business. And then get started doing it.
