Wearing Different Hats

I was always an avid hat wearer. Ever since I was about 8 years old, I wore hats on a regular basis and had a closet full of them. I still wear them today albeit to a lesser degree. My son however who is now approaching the teenage years and has been wearing hats for a few years now. I have started to take notice to what he is wearing, and what other kids are wearing for that matter. I can safely say they are a lot different than what I wore as a youngster and even what I wear today.

I primarily wear hats with my favorite sports teams printed upon them. I have numerous hats of my favorite pro basketball, baseball, football, as well as my favorite college team. I wear fitted hats, snap back hats, and maybe a winter hat if I go to a game and that’s about it. The hats I wear are relatively plain with solid team colors and a logo or two. My son on the other hand wears all different types of hats. He does wear team oriented hats but they usually are quite a bit more flamboyant than mine. They are always brighter, have more designs, frankly they have quite a bit more going on. That’s not all he wears though. He wears beanies or skullies in the winter with all sorts of different design styles. He is also big into monster apparel. He has 3 or 4 monster energy hats that he wears rather frequently as well. They have crazy designs and neon coloring all over them. He loves wearing them and I see his friends wearing them quite often as well. Too be honest at this point I can’t keep up with all the different hats these kids are wearing.

So what does all this mean. Well as far as my son goes it’s common for kids to like all kinds of different clothes when they are young. I know I went through countless different styles and wore tons of different hats. What I’ve noticed is I’ve slowed down as I’ve gotten older and I’m more set in my ways. Oddly enough by just noticing the difference between how he wears something as simple as hats and how I wear them it makes me realize how fast life is going. I remember when I was his age and wore all different types of hats. The fact of the matter is I still do, but the hats I wear are tailored towards being a father, a provider, a teacher, a friend, a husband, an uncle, and so on. It’s funny how you notice the major changes in life from something as simple as the hat on your son’s head.

My suggestion is enjoy the hats you are wearing even if they are many. Soon enough you may be too old to wear the hats or worse enjoy them altogether.

If you’re the sort of person who loves to use a table top wood lathe and all your friends know about it, you’ve probably given them a bowl for their birthday, a bowl for Christmas, a bowl for Thanksgiving, and maybe even a little bowl for some other holiday throughout the year.  While there is not really any strong stereotypical item for the cnc engraver, the bowl is the classic ‘every single wood turner makes this, and often, this is all they ever make’. Get outside the bowl and make something creative. If you’re really pushed for creativity, flatten out your object and make a plate. If you actually want to get creative, however, your options are endless.

You can make lamps. By hollowing out the center, you have space to pass the electrical cord through, and you can use the wood for the base. You can play around with all kinds of shapes and beads and spindles and swirls on your lamps, while still having something functional. You can make things like baseball bats for your kids or grand kids.  Those do take a bit of practice, but there are a lot of different things you can try to find the right personalized baseball bat for a specific person to match their specific swing. Just make sure that’s allowed with their team, and remember to follow the rules.

When you are in the realm of making sports equipment, you can also make things like pool cues. They’re long and great practice material for making things that work well and don’t give you a lot of space to mess up and dig too deeply. You have to time the angles on them very carefully so you don’t mess them up. There are other things you can make as well.  Another stereotypical classic that has been over done is the wooden pen. At the end of the day, people are generally just going to use whatever pen is available Mechanical pencils on the other hand are not nearly as ubiquitous, and are a lot more fun to make.

The juicer machine extracts the juice from the fruits and vegetables, allowing them to be the free from the unwanted parts such as the seeds, skin and flesh. On the other hand the blender create juice by cutting and grinding the fruits and vegetables into a semi liquid state, and it contains all the unwanted parts of the fruits. It is actually not that bad as the seeds, skin and flesh results in a high amount of fiber content in the juice. This cause our body to lower its effectiveness when absorbing the nutrients and vitamins. If you are able to live with that, you can use your blender as a juicer machine.
