I thought to myself why would I bother doing something that I don&#8217;t enjoy at my age? Life seems too short and I figure it&#8217;s high time I go find myself a new vocation. Of course what logically follows from that is an inquisition as to what new career path I would enjoy following.</p>
<p>First I figured I should think why I work. The picture I always have in my head when I&#8217;m slaving away is the thought of my kids gather happily around the {<a title="decorated christmas wreath" href="http://decoratedchristmaswreaths.teamptx.com/" target="_blank">christmas wreath</a>}. I know that&#8217;s what keeps me going. The business world is not a gentle nice place, nor is it fun, and when I start to think of it as a means to a bi-weekly check then I come to the conclusion that it just isn’t worthwhile.</p>
<p>Second, I figured I should think of stuff I do enjoy doing. I like fishing! I could be a fisherman?  No that doesn&#8217;t sound as fun as the fishing I do. Something else I like is helping with my daughters softball team. I suppose I could be a school teacher. That actually would be a good job apart from the drawback of going back to school.</p>

<p>No I guess when I really think about it I&#8217;m stuck in my job for a few more years. I&#8217;m close enough to retirement that I can taste it. I suppose I can cope for a few more years anyway. It&#8217;s working my way up the corporate ladder that bothers me. That&#8217;s  it, I&#8217;ll just stop playing! I&#8217;ll relax and let the world go by. Stop bringing work home with me, and stop checking my email before bed. My boss can&#8217;t can me. My severance package alone would take me past my planned retirement.<br />
Now I can just sit back and slack, hang a <a title="decorated christmas wreath" href="http://decoratedchristmaswreaths.teamptx.com/" target="_blank">decorated christmas wreath</a> with the kids, and make some real memories. Well there that alone gives me a year to look forward to. While at work I can envision a nice relaxing holiday, and think of my new New Years resolution.</p>

In the 1994 edition of the Journal of National Cancer Institute, the results of an epidemiological study stated that one of the health benefits of drinking green tea is that it can reduce the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by up to 60%.</p>
<p>The rich presence of <strong>catechin polyphenols</strong>, particularly <strong>epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)</strong> is the reason why green tea has so much health benefits. A powerful antioxidant, EGCG can not only inhibit the growth of cancer cells but can also destroy them without harming healthy cells.</p>
<p>The University of Purdue has also concluded a research on how a certain compound present in green tea can stop cancer cells from growing. Still another health benefit of green tea is its ability to lower down cholesterol levels and improve the ratio between good (HDL) cholesterol and bad (LDL) cholesterol.</p>

<p>While this can happen to the best of us, with good intentions&#8230; it doesn&#8217;t mean you should give up on yourself altogether when it comes to staying fit. What people need to realize is that staying active and eating right are critical for long-term health and wellness &#8212; and that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.</p>
<p>The more you know about how your body responds to your lifestyle choices, the better you can customize a nutrition and exercise plan that is right for you. When you eat well, increase your level of physical activity, and exercise at the proper intensity, you are informing your body that you want to burn a substantial amount of fuel. This translates to burning fat more efficiently for energy.</p>
<p>In other words, proper eating habits plus exercise equals fast metabolism, which, in turn gives you more energy throughout the day and allows you to do more physical work with less effort.</p>
<p>The true purpose of exercise is to send a repetitive message to the body asking for improvement in metabolism, strength, aerobic capacity and overall fitness and health. Each time you exercise, your body responds by upgrading its capabilities to burn fat throughout the day and night.</p>
<p><strong>Exercise doesn&#8217;t have to be intense to work for you, but it does need to be consistent.</strong></p>
<p>I recommend engaging in regular cardiovascular exercise four times per week for 20 to 30 minutes per session, and resistance training four times per week for 20 to 25 minutes per session. This balanced approach provides a one-two punch, incorporating aerobic exercise to burn fat and deliver more oxygen, and resistance training to increase lean body mass and burn more calories around the block.</p>

<p>* <strong>Aerobic Exercise</strong> &#8212; Pick two favorite activities, they could be jogging, rowing, biking or cross-country skiing, whatever fits your lifestyle. Perform 12 to 15 minutes of the first activity and continue with 10 minutes of the second activity. Cool down during the last five minutes.</p>
<p>* <strong>Stretching</strong> &#8212; Wrap up your exercise session by stretching, breathing deeply, relaxing and meditating.</p>
<p>When starting an exercise program, it is important to have realistic expectations. Depending on your initial fitness level, you should expect the following changes early on.</p>
<p>* <strong>From one to eight weeks</strong> &#8212; Feel better and have more energy.</p>
<p>* <strong>From two to six months</strong> &#8212; Lose size and inches while becoming leaner. Clothes begin to fit more loosely. You are gaining muscle and losing fat.</p>
<p>* <strong>After six months</strong> &#8212; Start losing weight quite rapidly.</p>
<p>Once you make the commitment to exercise several times a week, don&#8217;t stop there. You should also change your diet and/or eating habits.</p>
<p>Counting calories or calculating grams and percentages for certain nutrients is impractical. Instead, I suggest these easy-to-follow guidelines:</p>
<ul>
<li>Eat several small meals (optimally four) and a couple of small snacks throughout the day</li>
<li>Make sure every meal is balanced &#8212; incorporate palm-sized proteins like lean meats, fish, egg whites and dairy products, fist-sized portions of complex carbohydrates like whole-wheat bread and pasta, wild rice, multigrain cereal and potatoes, and fist-sized portions of vegetable and fruits</li>
<li>Limit your fat intake to only what&#8217;s necessary for adequate flavor</li>
<li>Drink at least eight 8-oz. glasses of water throughout the day</li>
<li>I also recommend that you take a multi-vitamin each day to ensure you are getting all the vitamins and minerals your body needs.</li>
</ul>

And while no one in their right mind will deny that <strong>eating well</strong> and <strong>sleeping right</strong> can do wonders for overall health and well-being, it&#8217;s far from the easiest method of prevention out there.</p>
<p><strong>But is there a way to fight the common cold that is both easy and effective? </strong></p>
<p>Short answer: <strong>Yes.</strong></p>

<p>One of the best ways to prevent the common cold that people tend to overlook is <strong>avoiding contact with those who suffer from the virus</strong>. <p>Just have a thought on this&#8230; Why do you think the common cold is more prevalent in people who spend most of their time in close quarters with one another? It&#8217;s because the chances are much greater that these people will somehow pass the cold virus back and forth to each other once one of them becomes infected.</p>

So what do you have to do when you&#8217;re around them? For starters, you can ask them to <strong>carry a tissue</strong> or <strong>handkerchief</strong> along with them to avoid spreading germs, so that you don&#8217;t have to carry on a conversation at a safe distance. You can easily inhale the cold virus after your friend coughs or sneezes, so he&#8217;d better have something to block his spray.</p>
<p>Also, think twice before sharing anything with him – food, drinks, or that handkerchief he sneezed in – since they are sure to be covered with germs that may put you on the fast track to infection. <strong>Washing your hands </strong>frequently would be a good idea as well, since the cold virus can be transferred through hand contact. And even if you refrain from touching your friend&#8217;s hand, who&#8217;s to say you won&#8217;t get the virus on yours when he passes you your keys or he hands over the money he owes you?</p>
<p>This is also why you should keep your hands away from your <strong>nose, mouth, and eyes</strong>. These areas are most vulnerable to the cold virus, so infection becomes more and more likely with each scratch (nose), pick (teeth), and rub (eye).</p>
