Yes, it looks like since, I bought my digital camera 1 year ago, it has become almost ‘obsolete’ in its features. It has become ‘lacking’ but still usable as compared to the latest models. But, I’m not going to chase after the latest and newest models just to keep up with the trend or fad.

So for those thinking of buying a digital camera, you are in for something, today. Well, I have provided you with a list of some things you have to look out for when buying a digital camera. Read them below.

1. How many megapixels do you really need?

More advanced cameras come packed with more pixels. But, before shelling out tons of money for that gazillion megapixel camera, keep in mind that there are other factors that have to be considered when buying that top megapixel camera.

A study has shown that people, even experts, cannot see the difference between the prints of pictures taken by 5 and 10-megapixel cameras. So, if you do indeed notice the difference between the megapixels, by all means go purchase the higher megapixel camera. As far as I know, unless you need to print photos in A2 or even A1 size photo, do you need a 10-megapixel camera.


2. How much memory do you need?

Are you the type of person who prefers to store your images on your camera instead of your computer? If that’s the case, then you need to buy a memory with a larger capacity for your camera.

It’s also the case if you’re a professional photographer using a digital SLR since cameras of this type use up more memory to store high-quality pictures.

3. Batteries are the lifeline of your camera.

Therefore, when you buy a digital camera, you should make sure that a back up battery can be found easily just in case you run out of juice (which always happens when you least expect it).

You should consider buying rechargeable batteries since they save a lot of money than buying the single-use variety.

4. Type of digital camera.

Nowadays, you see digital cameras in many forms with the Digital SLRs getting more popular by the day. Select a camera based on your needs against the features provided. If you need an digital SLR because you are an avid photographer who needs to tweak aperture size, lighting, ISO, and others, go for the digital SLR camera.

However, if you think a digital point and shoot camera is sufficient with most photography settings are automatically set, then go for a point and shoot digital camera type. Point to note is that a digital SLR will take up more space than a point-and-shoot digital camera type.
